Tax season office procedures:
We mail out a tax organizer on about January 15 each
year to most clients.  These include prior year amounts
for comparison purposes and are provided for your
benefit.  If you’re not comfortable with the organizer,
feel free to organize your information in any orderly
manner.  If you don’t use the organizer please return it
to us with your tax information.

If tax information is reported to you on tax reporting
documents then there is no need to do anything except
provide the tax reporting documents to us.  We want
the original tax reporting documents, such as W-2’s,
1099’s, and K-1’s.  We will generally not use any
summaries you prepare of the information on the tax
reporting documents.

After you organize and accumulate your current year
information, you may drop by or schedule an
appointment.  We will then go through your information
to determine if anything is missing and discuss any
questions.

We don’t make appointments on Monday, Tuesday, or
Saturday.  You are welcome to just drop by to meet
with us and go over your tax information.  We schedule
appointments on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Many people just mail or drop off their information if
there are no big changes and they have no questions.

Generally we will complete your return within one week
of receiving your information.  All federal and Oregon
returns are prepared to file electronically.  We will call
you to notify you that your returns are completed.  You
then need to come into the office to pick up your copy,
sign the electronic filing authorization form, and pay our
fees.

After we receive your signed authorization to file your
return, we submit it electronically.   We then monitor
your return until we get a notice that the return is
accepted by the IRS and the various states.  This filing
and acceptance process amazingly usually only takes
about 1 day.  We notify you only if we receive a notice
that there is a problem with the returns.

How much does it cost?

Most fees are computed based on the forms included
in the return.  For new clients, we provide an estimate
when we see your tax information.  On more complex
returns, we keep track of our time and charge a fee
based on the time taken.  The hourly rates used vary
from $100 to $65 per hour, depending on the
experience of the person performing the work.
